Week 1 Update

Wake me when it's time to feed him again.......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Sleepless in Indy

It's been a little over a week now since we came home from the hospital. I probably don't have to tell most of you how exhausting the week has been. We have been battling a superior being and he is now completely in charge.

Moon only sleeps while I'm changing diapers and I've just given up on sleep altogether. You might have noticed this if you've received one of my 4:00 am emails recently. My students are probably thinking that I'm nuts. They've gotten most of their feedback between 3:00 and 5:00 am.

Grandma Kim

Grandma Kim has helped out a lot with this. She fills in those gaps that allow both Moon and I to get cat naps during the day. These are the only things keeping us going, so she is really a saving grace. We pay her back by letting her cook, clean, change diapers, listen to us complain. We occasionally drop her off at the golf course when she's really good (and when there's not yet another tornado coming through).

Cutest Baby Ever!

When we are awake, nothing keeps us more entertained than Sammy. He's just so damn cute. Of course this is when he is sleeping or somewhere in-between. This is the kind of talk that will have you logging off this blog, but I can't help it. At no time in the history of man has there been such a cute baby. I'm still trying to figure out how Moon and I created this guy. He's better looking than either of us.

He's either screaming or sleeping about 99% of the day. The other 1% he is just staring around the room wide-eyed. I enjoy walking him around the house. Sometimes, this is the only way to keep him quiet. I think it is because he likes the change of scenery. Whatever it is, it just fascinates me to see this in him.

Some Obligatory Reporting

After a tough start Sammy is feeding well. He lost a bunch of weight at the hospital, but is now quickly approaching his birth weight. He's been gaining about an ounce a day for the last week and unlike me, weight gain is good for him.

We've been to the doctor's office a couple times (for a check up and weighing) and the doc says he is doing great. Moon is constantly worried that she is going to break him, that his crying has a terrible hidden meaning, that he's not getting enough to eat, and that she is just simply doing something wrong. I suppose this is normal for most new parents. I spend a lot of time reassuring her that she's doing a great job. I think that she's slowing beginning to believe that and it becoming more comfortable with him in general.

We've been doing all of the fun stuff. I've changed about 100 diapers and that's not an exaggeration. We've tried a dozen different remedies for discomfort associated with breast feeding (look into the cabbage thing...strange, but it works). We've begun to figure out Sammy's likes and dislikes. This is really important, because it has resulted in some restful nights this week.

All in all, we're enjoying the experience.

I should be loading the picture gallery with a bunch of photos soon. Make sure to take a look (see link on upper left-hand side of the page).
